Insanely hard to get these guys to stay still so i just took a vid... i dont know if you can see it in the vid but the female is filled with eggs and i believe i see an egg tube. Enjoy and let me know what you think
Heres a full tank shot... i tried for a realistic setup.. i know cons are notorious for uprooting plants but the babies are mainly gonna be food for my piranha aside from the odd one i sell so i think the pot i have in there should be more than enough for the pair forever.
The only good still shot i got.. heres the male staring me down like he always does.
Its been exactly a week since i got them and aside from a little nest building i have yet to see any eggs.. am i just impatient or is it possible the female is too small?

The male is showing some serious aggressionn towards the female and her tail fin is kinda nipped up.. Is this just the male trying to get the female to breed?

After a failed breeding you have to be careful. Sometimes one of the parents appears to 'blame' the other for eating the eggs (not sure if this is the case, just seems that way). Also, the male always wants to breed and hates females that aren't ready. Because she recently laid, she is probably not ready and may be harassed excessively (and, depending on the tank size may need a divider or separate tank).

Well both are still alive but the female has yet to fill with eggs and show any kind of breeding behavior( no nest building or nothing like that) comeeee onnnn I thought cons were supposed to be easy!
I was thinking maybe peat in the filter would help?

with some CA cichlids there are tricks (temperature change, foods, etc.)... but with convicts... in all seriousness... just wait. They'll be up and running in no time.

Just give them time and youll have eggs and convicts all over. mine fight all the time chase eachother go head to head and i still get a lot of eggs, its nothing really to worry about i dont think just let them do there thing.

yeah, it's not as common for a male convict to kill a female as it is for some other species... but still keep that eye on her to be sure. Otherwise, tison's right, just wait.
